Congrats ChiCub23!
Ohio fan ChiCub23, aka Andrew Ruck (yes, me, the guy who runs it), cruised to the 2009 pick em title with a pick
accuracy of 76%. I always wondered what it would be like to win my own pool, and I can tell you it is a little
awkward. I didn't really want to win it and take all the scrutiny that comes with it. I think running this game
for years and seeing the trends from year to year helped me in my picking. I picked the home team in 82 of 96 games
this year. In the 14 games I picked the road teams, 12 of those were the East vs the West, and I went 11-3 when picking
the away team. Contrast that to the rest of the league, which averaged a 45% acuracy when picking the road team.
A trio of pickers - Five-OEagles, MrUB, and nadamaas, trailed ChiCub23 by 4 picks.
In the fan standings, Eastern Michigan fans (or mostly just fan) grabbed the title with a 72% accuracy,
Buffalo fans were just 2% behind WMU fans in 2nd place. Akron fans brought up the rear despite having a solid team,
which typically helps in picking. NIU fans avoided dead last by a tenth of a percent.
The conference was about as hard to predict as ever, with an overall
pick accruacy of 64.4% (6,293 correct picks against 3,481 incorrect picks), down from 71.1% last season.
The MAC had an exceptional home court advantage this year and it showed in the picking. When pickers chose the
home team, they were correct 72% of the time. When pickers went out on the limb and chose the road team, pickers
suffered with a 44% accuracy rate.
Toledo was the most predictable team, with a 78% accuracy, while Bowling Green was the toughest to predict for
the 2nd year in a row, with an accuracy of 50%. Miami was the most respected team in the
league, with an overall predicted win percentage of 73%, while EMU was least respected with a predicted win
percentage of 19%.
